I thought I would start up a thread here and share some tip's and tricks to enjoy forum a bit more, make it easier to read.

Here is the first tip:

Tip #1.

If you don't read all posts and threads here you end up with a bunch of post marked as unread. This will make it hard to keep up with discussions and/or replies.
If you look in bottom of first page (index) you find a button called "Mark forums read".
Press this and all posts made prior this will be marked as read.

Tip #2

User Control Panel = UCP

In this there is a lot of setting and preferences you can choose from to make forum a bit more personal and appealing to you.
Styles, how page is to be displayed, menage attachments etc.
It is accessed from first page (Index page).

Look around and read a bit in FAQ forum and FAQ section.
It will answer 90% of the questions that come up. The rest I can help you with if you let me know.

When surfing the site it is easiest to start from index, first page.
There you can see the different categories as well as forums.

Under each forum there is a short description. This is to help us all get the stuff in right place so we find it later if needed.
Try too keep general talk out of library. It is hard enough to go thru all posts trying to find something.

CSCF is a pretty big place that has been going on for a while now so there are chances you might find a dead link or something else wrong. Please notify Admins or moderator if you do.

Learn how to use the search function. Test and try, it will be a big help I promise.

There is a function here that allow you that start a topic to "Bump" it after 10 day's.

It is a button in bottom that will allow this so you don't need to make a new post to make it go up to top of list and be marked unread.

If you loose your password, the forum can change and send you a new.

You click "I forgot password", were you log in, enter user name and Email, a new will be sent to you.

Tip of the week #7.

In most browsers it is possible to change how page is displayed.

Opera, Firefox and Explorer use the same feature.
Hold control key in and click + to enhance and - to decrease.

And one more zoom feature in Firefox: If you zoom, both text and pics are resized, if the pics become too big then, you can choose "Zoom text only" on menu View->Zoom. If that is checked only text changes size.

Tip #8

Posting.

Try to share as much as you can. That way we all benefit and have more joy out of the collections.
Pic's of saws, scan's or pic's of document and poster all contribute a lot to history.

Try to post in the category it belong to.
The forum is full of information, but it is hard to find if it is in general forums or posted wrong.
I try to post with title as clear as possible to see what content is.
That way it is easy to search later for all interested.

Posts in library that is comments and similar will be removed. This is to make it easier to find info and do research.
The library's are a great source of information and reference.
The more saws there is posted the easier it will be to compile articles and do research for all of us.
If there are not just one, but 5 or 10 saws of a model it is easy to spot differances and that will help us restore and keep saws original if so wanted.

Tip of the week #9.

Orientation tip's!

These four buttons you find in top of all pages, shortcuts that makes it easier to browse the site.
For those of us that browse entire page or just one or two forums it is esiest to start from Index (first page were all forums are listed).

There is two on left side ( View unanswered posts | View active topics) and two on right side (View new posts | View your posts).

These buttons are shortcuts that list the forum content in a certain way regardless of what forum it is in.
This following texts are same buttons so you can test each.

View unanswered posts
This show you all posts you have not answered.

View active topics
This show you were you see the topic's you are active in.

View new posts
This show you unread posts.

View your posts
This show you the posts you made.

Tip of the week #10.

Quote.

1) When you reply in a topic it is sometimes confusing what post you reply to if it is not a general reply to the topic.
In right of each post is a button that say "Quote". If you press this it will be qouted above your reply so it is clear what you reply to.

2) Other good way's to use quote is when you browse thru library were you can't reply/comment etc.
Then you click "quote", copy the hole quote wit the tag's and all. Then make a reply in a forum for discussion and insert the quote there.

3) When you see something others said or share a part of a text somewere you use the quote button.
That way it is clear it is not from you.
When you make new topic or reply the button for quote is above the text fieald were you write.

You can sort the threads displayed in different way's.
It looks a bit different in the different styles that are optional to view forum, but in pro silver that is set as standard you have choices in bottom of page.

Display topics from previous by choosing following: Is From post date, best left as is: All posts

Sort by choosing following: Post time, Author, Replies, Subject, Views

Choosing following: Ascending or Descending.
