Just got a Stihl 040 from a customer I'am a Stihl dealer and am uable to find out any info other than whats on the Mike Acres site. They gave me a history of Stihl power tools sheet when I went to Crader for school. It shows series #1110 made from 1966-1967,other than that I'am not finding anything. Just about ever other saw made by Stihl a can get a IPL for,but this saw is know where to be found.Must be a rare saw.

Hello Chisel Tooth. I moved this thread from Forum Information to here, the Chainsaw collectors Forum, so that it may be seen by more people. You take care. Lewis Brander.

This is from the St-t-t-t.... the S-s-s-t-t-t.... a website about those red and white saws.

1966 Chainsaw 040
On the occasion of the company's 40th anniversary, STIHL presents the one-man chainsaw 040 - and a technical sensation: with a power output of 3.7 HP, the machine weighs only 6.8 kg. For the first time, the power-to-weight ratio has been pushed below the level of 2.0 kg/HP

I just did a "google" for St-t-t-t.... (that funny brand name) 040 and found the site at: www.stihl.ca/company_history_prod_1960.asp - 30k

Also, some guy selling two air cleaner covers for 040's on eBay.... Item number: 2372016251 for $20 each. They look OK except the colors are...... terrible! (as Martin says)

And a whole bunch of other parts for 040's listed for sale at various sites.... all listed in the "google" search.

Looks like they break 'em up for parts after only 40 years..... not like my old Mac 3-25. :P :P :P

Tee hee :D

Thanks: Just was looking through some of my IPL books, nothing. The one book I thought it would be in starts with 015 all the way to the 090G,and right where 040 should be jumps from 030/031AV to 041then to 041G.

Just took a look at the history sheet and it shows the 040,and the 041 to
the 041AVQFB using a series number of 1110,the 041G has a series # of
1112.

THANKYOU: EVERYONE
Chisel Tooth.
